Breast Lift (Mastopexy)

How Breast Lift Surgery Works at Windsor Plastic Surgery

Breastlift Surgery

A breast lift, also known as mastopexy, is a surgery performed on the breasts to lift and reshape breasts that sag. Factors such as nursing, pregnancy and gravity over time, change the appearance of the breasts. As women age, the elasticity of the skin becomes more loose and saggy. Women will lose that firmness and shape they once had. The small scars that are left behind by mastopexy can easily be covered by a bathing suit or bra.

Breast lift surgery typically takes two hours, and is performed under general anaesthesia. Following the natural contour of the breast, Dr. Niessen starts with an anchor shaped incision. Sutures are located near the areola, extending down a vertical line downwards and across the lower crease of the breast.

After your surgery, you will wear a surgical bra or an elastic bandage over the gauze dressing. You will experience bruising on your breasts, discomfort and swelling for a day or two. Dr. Niessen will prescribe medication for the pain. Within ten days of your breast lift, your surgical bandage will be removed and replaced by a soft support bra. After the surgery, you can expect to feel numbness in your breast skin and nipples. In some cases, this will fade. In some cases, this will last up to a year or more, and rarely will it be permanent.

Although you may be active in a day or two, you may be off work for a week, depending on how you feel. Patients should avoid lifting anything over their head and playing strenuous sports for two weeks. One month after your surgery, you may resume your regular activities.
